    \Yahama YBR 125 2005 - technical specs

The Yamaha YBR 125 is the backbone of the global 125cc market. From its 2005 debut to the final 2017 "Custom" and "Z" models, this bike has defined the learner-legal commuter. Whether you have the early "kick-start" version or the late "Euro 4" fuel-injected model, this is your definitive spec and maintenance sheet.

🛠 The Evolution of the YBR 125

    • Gen 1 (2005–2006): Mikuni VM22 Carburetor + Kick-start & Electric start. (The DIY mechanic's favorite).

    • Gen 2 (2007–2009): Transition to Fuel Injection (EFI). No kick-start. New analog clocks and redesigned exhaust.

    • Gen 3 (2010–2014): Aesthetic face-lift with sharper tank fairings, five-spoke alloy wheels, and improved fuel pump reliability.

    • Gen 4 (2015–2017): Final production run. Minor emissions tweaks to meet Euro 4 standards before the Yamaha YS125 replaced it.

🔍 Master Technical Specifications (All Models)

    • Engine: 124cc, Air-cooled, 2-valve, SOHC Single.

    • Power Output: 10 hp (7.5 kW) @ 7,800 rpm.

    • Fuel Consumption: An incredible 90–110 mpg (Real world).

    • Oil Capacity: 1.0 Liter (10W-40 JASO MA). Note: Change every 2,000 miles.

    • Tires: Front: 2.75-18 / Rear: 90/90-18. (Upgrade to Michelin Pilot Street for 50% better wet grip).

    • Chain: 428 Pitch (Standard is 118 links).

⚠️ The "Critical 3" Maintenance Checks

    1. The Fuel Pump (2007+ Models): Early EFI models were known for fuel pumps that seized in hot weather. If your bike won't start after sitting in the sun, cool the tank with a damp cloth.

    2. Exhaust Corrosion: The OEM exhaust is thin. Clean it weekly and apply high-temp black paint or ACF-50 to prevent "rust-through" near the header.

    3. Valve Clearances: The YBR is a "tappy" engine, but too much noise means power loss. Clearance: 0.08mm - 0.12mm (Inlet/Exhaust). Check every 4,000 miles.
