Back in 2014, I swapped the stock "dead-straight" Yamaha levers for adjustable alloy versions. In 2026, this remains one of the best "low-cost, high-return" investments you can make for your YBR 125.

Whether you are filtering through city traffic or out on a long ride, the ability to bring the levers closer to your grip provides a massive "margin of safety" and reduces hand fatigue.

1. Why Upgrade in 2026?

  • Ergonomics: The stock YBR levers are designed for a "one size fits all" approach. Adjustable levers allow you to set the "reach" to your specific hand size.

  • The "Snap" Factor: Many aftermarket alloy levers are "foldable." If the bike tips over, the lever folds up rather than snapping off, saving you from being stranded—a true "Resilience" feature for delivery riders.

  • Shorty vs. Long: "Shorty" levers (2-finger) are great for style, but for a commuter, I still recommend the full-length or extendable versions for better leverage during emergency braking.

2. Installation Tips & Tricks

  • The Pivot Bolt: Don't just swap the bolt. Clean it thoroughly and apply a small dab of lithium grease. This ensures the lever feels "silky smooth" rather than "grinding" against the perch.

  • The Brake Switch: Be extremely careful when fitting the brake lever. There is a tiny plastic "plunger" for the brake light switch. If you force the lever on, you will snap this plunger, and your brake light will stay on (or off) permanently.

  • Clutch Cable Slack: After fitting the clutch lever, re-adjust your cable. You need about 10mm-15mm of free play at the lever end.

3. Sourcing in 2026

In 2014, these were specialty items. Today, you can find high-quality CNC machined levers on eBay or Amazon for under £20.

  • Pro-Tip: Look for "T6061 Aluminum" as it offers the best strength-to-weight ratio. Avoid the ultra-cheap unbranded versions that feel "wobbly" at the pivot point—your "Wide Moat" of safety depends on quality controls.
