Yamaha YBR 125: How to Read Engine Management Fault Codes

If your Yamaha YBR 125 "Engine Management Light" (the amber/orange light on the dash) is flashing, the bike is using a pulse-coding system to tell you exactly which sensor is failing. You do not need a diagnostic tool or a scanner—you just need to watch the light.

The Step-by-Step Process

  1. Preparation: Put the bike on its center stand. Ensure the kill switch is set to the "RUN" position.

  2. Ignition On: Turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine).

  3. The Initial Check: The engine light will illuminate for about 2 seconds and then go off. This is a bulb check to show the light is working.

  4. The Flash Sequence: If a fault is stored in the ECU, the light will begin to flash in a specific pattern.

How to Decode the Patterns

The ECU uses a two-digit system consisting of Long and Short flashes.

  • The "Tens" Digit: A Long Flash (stays on for 1.5 seconds). Each long flash counts as 10.

  • The "Units" Digit: A Short Flash (stays on for 0.5 seconds). Each short flash counts as 1.

Example: You see two long flashes followed by eight short flashes.

  • 2 x 10 = 20

  • 8 x 1 = 8

  • Result: Fault Code 28 (Engine Temperature Sensor).

Note: If there are multiple faults, the light will pause for several seconds after the first code and then begin the next one.
