To keep your bike in the "Wide Moat" category of reliability, you need a disciplined routine that accounts for age and modern fuel.

1. The 1,000-Mile "Oil Audit"

The YBR 125 only holds 1 litre of oil and has no paper filter.

• The 2026 Rule: Change your oil every 1,000 to 1,500 miles—especially if you do delivery work.

• The Upgrade: Use a magnetic drain bolt. It’s a cheap "R&D" investment that catches metallic shavings before they can circulate and cause wear.

2. The E10 Fuel Routine

Modern E10 petrol is harder on rubber seals and injectors than the fuel we had in 2014.

• Routine Action: Every few tanks, add a splash of fuel system cleaner. If the bike is going to sit for more than a week, try to fill up with "Super" E5 petrol to prevent the injector from gumming up.

3. Chain & Sprocket "Resilience"

A dry chain is a failing chain.

• The Check: Clean and lube your chain every 300 miles (or every week if it rains).

• The Spec: Ensure you have 20-30mm of slack. A chain that is too tight will "grind" down your output shaft bearing—a very expensive "Maintenance Debt" to repay.

• Cables: Use a cable luber tool on your throttle and clutch cables. If they feel "gritty," they are about to snap.

• Pivots: Grease your kickstand, gear shifter, and brake pedal pivots. It makes the bike feel "brand new" and prevents parts from seizing in the winter salt.

5. Battery & Electrics

• Clean your battery terminals and apply a dab of petroleum jelly to prevent "furring." On a fuel-injected bike, a weak battery is your biggest enemy.
